GUIDING PRINCIPLES
-
We understand that civic participation is a cornerstone of democracy, and we are committed to ensuring that Black communities have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
How We Do It:Voter Education and Engagement:
We work to increase voter turnout by addressing barriers to voting, providing accessible information about elections, and fostering a sense of civic responsibility and agency. We encourage Black Californians to effectively engage with our democracy--whether that be through voting, community organizing or advocacy. -
We are committed to closing the racial wealth gap, which has been systematically widened by decades of unequal access to economic opportunities, wealth-building resources, and policies that disproportionately disadvantage Black communities.
How We Do It:
Legislative Advocacy:
By advocating for policies and programs that provide Black people with the tools, resources, and opportunities to build generational wealth. -
We actively work to ensure that Black communities are not only heard but are central in shaping policies that affect their lives.
How We Do It:
Amplifying Black Voices in the Legislative Process:
This includes advocating for Black representation in government, organizing grassroots campaigns, providing voter education, and facilitating direct engagement with lawmakers.
-
We unite diverse voices, amplify collective strength, and form strategic partnerships that deepen our impact in advancing equity and reparative justice in California.
How We Do It:
Coalition Building
We actively seek partnerships and opportunities for collaboration with organizations and movements that align with our goals, knowing that no single entity can accomplish these critical goals alone. -
We believe that true justice for Black communities requires not just addressing the harm caused by past injustices, but actively working to repair the damage caused by centuries of systemic racism, slavery, and disenfranchisement. Reparative justice seeks to acknowledge and rectify historical wrongs by providing concrete, sustained support to Black communities that have been disproportionately affected by racial inequities.
How We Do It:
We work to educate both the public and policymakers about the importance of reparations and its long-term benefits for society. We uplift the progress and contributions of lawmakers working toward reparative justice for Black Californias. This includes providing educational resources and hosting events and advocacy campaigns that highlight the need for reparations and the impact it will have on closing the racial wealth gap and promoting equity.
-
We believe in the power and wisdom of the communities we serve. Decisions, solutions, and strategies should be informed by those who are directly impacted by systemic inequities.
How We Do It:
We prioritize direct input from those who are most affected by the issues we address. We actively involve community members in the decision-making process through community forums and other participatory events.
